The Basics of Taking AMPYRA®(dalfampridine) Extended Release Tablets - Take It Twice a Day, About 12 Hours Apart

You may not feel the benefits right away. Don't be discouraged.

When people start on AMPYRA®, their individual results may vary. In clinical trials, some people had improvements up to 6 weeks of starting treatment.7 It's important that you follow your doctor's instructions on how to take AMPYRA.

Never take more than one tablet of AMPYRA twice a day 12 hours apart. Don’t take more than 2 tablets in a 24-hour period because it may increase the risk of seizures. You won’t experience any additional benefits from AMPYRA if you take doses higher than 10 mg twice daily. Taking a higher dose can increase your risk of side effects, including seizures.

If you miss a dose of AMPYRA don’t make up a the missed dose.

Do not break, crush, chew or dissolve AMPYRA tablets before swallowing. If you cannot swallow AMPYRA tablets whole, tell your doctor. AMPYRA is released slowly over time. If the tablet is broken, the medicine may be released too fast. This can raise your chance of having a seizure.

AMPYRA tablets can be taken with or without food. They should be stored at 59ºF to 86ºF (15ºC to 30ºC).

Here are a few other things to remember about AMPYRA. Do not take AMPYRA if you:

  • have ever had a seizure
  • have kidney problems

Before you take AMPYRA, tell your doctor if you:

  • have any other medical conditions
  • are taking compounded 4-aminopyridine (fampridine, 4-AP)
